What's the Best Bulldozer Motherboard?
Following the release of AMD’s new
FX range of CPUs – codenamed Bulldozer – we thought it would be appropriate to revisit some of our favourite Socket AM3+ motherboards with AMD’s new chip to see how they fared. As we’ve seen most of the contenders in this test before, we’ve kept the reviews short and sweet. However, if you do find yourself wanting more information about any of the boards here, look out for the link we’ve embedded in the first paragraph of each of the reviews, as this links back to our original review of the board.
Most of the motherboards are based on AMD's 990FX chipset, but we also included ASRock’s 890FX Deluxe5 motherboard; it’s one of many 890FX chipset-equipped motherboards that manufacturers claim will work with Bulldozer.
If you’re reading this group test because you’re planning a new build, then we recommend that you go and acquaint yourself with our
AMD FX-8150 review first as Bulldozer isn’t suited to everyone. While you’re at it, you may as well also check out our
Sandy Bridge and
Sandy Bridge-E reviews to see which route is best for you.
Either way, this group test will lift the lid on any issues that become apparent and hopefully uncover some worthwhile options for those who intend to invest in AMD’s new flagship chip. Likewise, if you already own any of the four motherboards on test, we’ll show you just what to expect if you decide to opt for an AMD FX CPU as your next upgrade.
